2023 - The New Chicken/Broiler House

“Give a Man a Fish, You Feed Him for a Day, but if You Give Him a Fishing Rod, You Feed Him for a Lifetime”. Same principle, different species…..Chickens!

A couple who have supported BHA for the past 18 years funded another first for a hospital in The Gambia, a  Chicken/Broiler House has been built within the grounds of Bansang hospital.

Our patron Simon Scarrow donated the necessary funds to purchase 250 Broiler chicks and all ancillary equipment to include feed and water stations plus the necessary medications that all chicks require. This will supply nutritious food for hospital consumption with a small quantity sold to locals to finance the purchase of broiler chicks every 8-10 weeks, so hopefully a self-financing project.

Our dedicated Fish Keepers Mansour and Lasana will be in charge of this project and so will be able to add ‘Chicken Keepers’ to their job description.

This sustainable Chicken Farm within the grounds of the hospital is another first for the Gambia and was the brainchild of the late CEO Baba Jeng. Baba was always thinking of the welfare of his patients, staff, and the thousands of poor people that he served.
