During Anita's visit in January 2020 she was extremely  surprised, in fact shocked, to be confronted by her son Laurence, who had secretly arrived in the Gambia and cycled the 200 miles to the hospital. This is not the first time Laurence has visited the hospital, he has been a number of times before, preferring to cycle rather than using vehicles. Some years ago he had to abort a cycle trip to Australia when he was stuck in Turkey with his onward travels stopped by Iranian border permit issues.

Laurence has always been a very compassionate individual and during the Covid crisis he created the remarkable Lewisham Donation Hub to support all those in need, the homeless, asylum seekers, the destitute in fact anybody in trouble receives extraordinary support from Laurence; view here
