Adventure News: Anita & team are nearing Nouakchott, Mauritania

Current location: Heading towards Nouakchott (Mauritania)

We received a text last night from mum telling us to ‘please call’, and no other information. If anyone knows Anita, they know she is pretty awful at using anything that has electricity passing through it…so we weren’t unduly concerned by her brevity. A few hours of failed telephone calls later, and we were becoming a little more concerned – so we were very pleased to receive the following message from Dennis this morning;

Dennis, 10:50am “Everything fine. Just heading for Mauritania via Nouakchott. Going to push on as far as we can, so hopefully just south of Western Sahara by nightfall. Can you please have a look for anything about Nouakchott on the news as hearing of possible problems. Cheers, Dennis”

Me, 11am: “Peaceful opposition group rallies being held in nine districts of Nouakchott. Protesting about anti-democratic policies of the president. British couple have also just arrived from Timbuktu…they escaped from the Al-Qaeda takeover of that city. They are seeking shelter at French Embassy. Probably best to avoid staying in insecure accommodation in Nouakchott with the Al-Qaeda stuff that’s around. Safe journey”

Anita and team are due back in the UK on the 20th April. If you are enjoying reading about their adventure, please feel free to share these entries with others using the ‘share/save’ button below. You can also receive this and other Bansang Hospital Appeal news direct to your email inbox.
